Product Review:
Purchased this on a Cyber Monday deal and have no regrets. Networking capabilities on this receiver make your playlist unlimited. I've got this powering polk speakers flawlessly and have been using it for both music and movies with plenty of compliments from friends and even my wife thinks it was a good purchase. I am also a fan of Yamaha and this is up to par with their quality. I use the zone 2 feature for my kitchen using in-ceiling speakers and use my droid phone or laptop via wifi. I have no regrets with this purchase and would do it again.

Ordered this over the phone and I felt safe giving my credit card information. Arrived in 2 days. Yamaha also accepted them as an authorized online seller for warranty.

has anyone added a 3rd party IR reciever to this unit? i am going through real wood and the remote does not work this way.

Yes, YEW has setup IR receivers before and to the Yamaha RX-A710 too. We have used items like the Niles Audio RCA-TT2 Remote Control with tabletop sensor. Please contact us at 1-866-224-6171 to discuss your current setup with an custom installation expert; real wood would not be any different than anything else with an IR system.
